In the world of the oil and gas industry, finding a leader with a profound understanding of its intricacies can be a game-changer for any organisation. At Think Access Group, we are proud to introduce Joe, our Managing Director, who brings over a decade of experience in the field. With expertise in Rope Access, Non-destructive Testing (NDT), and inspection of fixed equipment, Joe is the driving force behind our success.

The Journey Begins

Joe’s journey into the oil and gas sector may not have been conventional, but it’s one that has undoubtedly borne fruit. It all began with a career pivot while working as a personal trainer at a local refinery’s gym. The call for a change in direction led Joe to explore the world of Rope Access, where he embarked on a path that would ultimately shape his career and expertise.

From Steeplejack to NDT Specialist

Joe started his Rope Access career with a steeplejack company, specializing in stack maintenance. This role provided him with hands-on experience, honing his skills in working at heights and mastering the art of rope access techniques. His time in the steeplejack world set the stage for the next phase of his career.

This phase led Joe to join the refinery’s NDT company, where he began to delve into a diverse range of disciplines. These included Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI), Radiography, Thermography, Positive Material Identification (PMI), and working with specialized techniques such as Phased Array, Eddy Current, and Internal Rotary Inspection System (IRIS).

Progression in Rope Access

While expanding his expertise in NDT, Joe also continued to progress his Rope Access qualifications, eventually achieving a Level 3 certification. This advancement enabled him to manage the site’s Rope Access Department, a role he held for several years. This period of responsibility allowed Joe to deepen his understanding of the importance of safety, efficiency, and precision in the oil and gas sector.

The Transition to Inspection Engineering

As Joe’s career path continued to evolve, he was cross-hired to work with the client at their request. This move highlighted his exceptional skill set and allowed him to transition into the role of an inspection engineer. During this phase, Joe obtained categorisation and managed inspection execution at the site’s Marine Terminal for an impressive four years. His experience in this role provided him with a comprehensive perspective of the sector, understanding the critical role of inspections in ensuring safety and integrity.

A New Venture

Joe’s journey has now led him to a new venture where he’s putting all his skills and experience to work. He’s starting a branch of the Think Access Group, a testament to his dedication and belief in the value of his accumulated expertise.

Joe’s background, skills, and experience in Rope Access, NDT, and inspection of fixed equipment make him a standout figure in the oil and gas industry. With over a decade of experience and a commitment to excellence, he’s the driving force behind Think Access Group, ensuring that our services and solutions are unparalleled in quality and safety.

We look forward to the bright future that Joe’s leadership will bring to our organisation, and we’re excited to see the impact he’ll make in the oil and gas sector as a whole.
